Hi Shelagh,
Hi Shelagh I stumbled on your website, recognised you and decided to drop you a line. You may not remember but my husband Tony and myself met you several years go (I can't quite recall where) and we both shared a love of leonbergers. You lived in St. Albans at the time and you told us about your Leo from John Feehan etc., I believe we already had our Leo bought from Debbie Butler although I can't be sure. Ringing any bells yet? Possibly not, it was a long time ago and after reading about your experiences since then (anything but dull) it's unlikely. Anyway, I'm rather envious as I haven't owned a dog for about 18 months, Reef - our Leo was a great dog, perfect apart from his inability to come back to me when called. I spent many hours training him in all weathers, using every trick in the book, he wasn't food or toy orientated and I even bought a horse training lead. The idea being to let him run and reel him in with lots of praise etc - that didn't work either! I phoned various people for advice (one person owned 8 or 9 Leos) and she told me small pieces of hard baked liver couldn't fail and they can't resist it. Not true in Reef's case!! The final straw was yet another attempt at letting him off the lead in a field and he almost ended up under a bus. By that time I realised I couldn't keep him and never let him off the lead so he went to live with some horses on a farm - perfect for him, lots of space to run around and no danger of causing a nasty accident. That was over 6 years ago and I still miss him and beat myself up as to whether there was anything else I could have done. I'm not an expert on training dogs but I know enough to get by and when I have my sensible head on I know I put in more time and effort than perhaps most people would have done, unfortunately, with no success - who knows why?
Well, I've decided to reduce my working hours and would love to get another Leo soon, so I was hoping to pick your brains on the subject and wondered if you had any recommendations regarding breeders, or perhaps you know of puppies that will be available in the next few months? Or maybe you are considering another litter, anyway I would be grateful for any advice you may have. I have enjoyed reading about what's been going on in your life although being bitten by your friend's dog must have been awful for you, not to mention painful!!
Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you when you have a few minutes to spare.

Regard and best wishes Elaine
