Despite my best intentions of re-doing the site 10 months ago, clearly it never actually progressed. In the mean time, new versions of WordPress have arrived (which this site now runs from), and advances in adding themes have been made possible.
The good news is that the core of WordPress now supports galleries; the bad news is that it means each and every previous post that contained an image needs to be edited with all the images re-uploaded to take advantage of them. I’ll be doing this whilst I also do the templates and themes.

As part of improving the website, I’ll be updating some key parts of it, in preparation for a completely new look and structure.

The first part, over the next couple of days shouldn’t affect how the site looks. Unfortunately however, it’s almost certain that some links may change which will break your bookmarks and favourites. We’ll try and keep these to a minimum – the dog pages links should stay the same, but the blog posts links will definitely change. Update:This first step has been done, with only a few minor problems left to sort.

After that, you’ll start to notice the look of the site will change, as I load in a new theme, then tweak parts of it to blend in with what Shelagh wants. This will take the most amount of time.

Finally, some new features might appear, such as a proper gallery, hopefully integrated into the look of the rest of the site.

The changes are necessary for the future stability of the site. (In truth, I now know much better how WordPress works, so we can take full advantage of it!)

With more and more updates on the way, it was time to jump into 2007, and get a blog on the site. As such, the old content will need to be moved across into the new version, templates updated and so on and so forth.

Patience is a virtue.

Update: A fair bit of the work has been done already! I’m really surprised how easy WordPress is to use and style.

This News page added to the site. This should help regular visitors keep track of any changes to the site, and be a place to report any show results. Icons have been added so that each item can be quickly identified to its topic. Altered the styles slightly, so that the News Flash looked better and had a rosette image. Altered the titles of pages to help improve the ranking in search engines. Keira’s Gallery has been updated with four new images.

Our new website was launched today – nothing fantastic, but should keep our friends in the loop!
